Encourage Your Heart

By Ronnie Joy Ravelo

For most of us, it’s not unusual to feel downcast and discouraged. Rarely do we experience an all time high state of emotions. I occasionally experience this phenomenon of “waking on the wrong side of the bed.” There are times when, because of circumstances happening around and inside us, we feel worried, disappointed or depressed. These feelings drag us down, paralyze us, and keep us from experiencing the best and the fullness of life. Thus, it is important that we learn the habit of encouraging the heart.

The Bible speaks of a practical tip in encouraging our heart. Proverbs 15:30 says “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart” (NIV). In the NASB translation, it says “bright eyes gladden the heart; good news put fat on the bones”. It appears as though the verse tells about the value of literally putting on a happy face to bring about joy to the heart. But I believe it’s more than that. This verse suggests to us that having a bright outlook, a cheerful perspective is one sure way of encouraging the heart. Dwelling on the good news, the positive side, and hoping for the best to come is a heavenly wisdom in managing our emotions.

What circumstances are you experiencing now that causes you feel depressed? What outlooks should you possess to shift the emotions in your heart? What is God telling you about your future? Try to dwell on them and see what happens.
