God’s Beautiful Creation

By Sophia D. Mendiola

“I praise you Lord because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful. I know that full well”

Psalm 139: 14

Riding on a beaten-up bus along Halselma Highway on the way to Bugias, Benguet, I cannot help but be mesmerized by the stunning beauty that surrounds me. Looking on my left, there are mountain ranges covered by different shades of green accentuated by few isolated waterfalls. On my right are deep ravines, deceptively covered with cottony clouds, giving me the illusion that I am flying. Spanning my gaze to all of these, make me hold my breath and say, “Wow! Absolutely beautiful!”

In Psalm 139, the psalmist David describes a beauty that is more breath-taking; it’s a beauty that God created Himself, you and me.

But I wonder how many times we really see ourselves beautiful. In any given day, most of us may feel unlovely, unworthy and resentful of so many things in life. It may be caused by how we physically look or the mistakes we’ve made in the past or other misgivings we may have about ourselves. However, our Father sees us way differently.

We are made in God’s image and likeness. In the book “Captivating,” authors John and Stasi Eldridge mentioned that the crowning glory of creation was not when God made stars and galaxies but when He created man – you and me. Never for a moment does God let His eyes wander from His beautiful creation and never has He for a moment given up on the beauty that He bestowed upon us.

What are the things that make you feel unworthy, unloved and resentful in your life? Surrender them to the Lord and let Him show you your true beauty today.
