DMI holds first Writers’ Workshop
By Adrian CrisantoOn August 29-30, Destiny Ministries International (DMI) held its first Writers’ Workshop at the Cliffside Retreat House, Tagaytay City. Its objective was to equip participants with knowledge and skills for effective writing.
Seventeen participants representing four Destiny churches (Los Banos, Calamba City, San Pablo City, and Makati City) attended the workshop.
The workshop served as the first step in preparing writers for the DMI publications, particularly for the newsletter and website. Mr. Lester P. Ordan, the coordinator, believes that this workshop will also open up writing opportunities in and outside the church. “The writers in this workshop may contribute articles for DMI’s newsletter and website,” says Ordan, “And who knows, we may see them writing for mainstream publications, like newspapers and magazines, or even books.”
Most of the participants were new to a writing workshop, yet they enjoyed learning more about writing and its significance in teaching and disseminating ideas to readers. Ms. Jane Sager, a participant and an elementary teacher from San Pablo City, speaks about her insight on writing. “Writing will not just be another hobby but a ministry that can impact people’s lives,” says Sager.
Topics like news and feature writing, creative writing, and writing devotionals were covered during the workshop. Participants were asked to write a straight news article and a devotional. Dr. Serlie B. Jamias, Associate Professor, College of Development Communication (CDC), UP Los Banos and Prof. Mayette R. Manza, Center for External Linkages Head of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, were the speakers of the event.
